Madison+ Is Not Just for Work

When attending a Madison+ conference, you don’t have to just come for work. Yes, you come for a content-filled weekend, full of technical talks and hands-on workshops, but there is so much more to do! Renewing old friendships made at previously-attended conferences. Making new connections in an industry that you’re passionate about. Maybe this is that weekend getaway to an exciting new city. At our conferences, we want you to have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and insight, but we also want you to have a fun time in this great city of Madison, Wisconsin.

Here are some ideas for a great time while in Madison

Touring State Street and the Capitol Square

A popular spot is Madison’s renowned State Street and capitol square, which happens to border our conference venue. State Street runs from the west corner of the beautiful state Capitol building to the adjoining campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

State Street and the square have a small-town appeal and hundreds of unique shops, boutiques, art galleries, and museums, all within walking distance. The downtown location also features an abundance of locally-owned restaurants, breweries, bars, and cafes representing diverse foods from all over the world. The variety of activity our downtown hosts is sure to provide a fun-filled weekend.

Farmers’ Market

The Madison Farmers’ Market is a huge deal here in Wisconsin, and we can’t recommend it enough. Each Saturday, nearly 200 area farmers gather on the capitol square to sell home-grown produce, homemade baked goods, and other delicious foods. Also featured are live music performances, locally-featured barista booths, and many other fun activities. We always make time for our attendees to get out and experience our beloved Farmers’ Market!

B-cycles, Parks, and Lakes, OH MY!

When holding our conferences, we want to showcase our event, but we also want to show off our city. Madison is a beautiful place, and what many of its citizens love about it is the the excess of outdoor activity available to them. Madison, which is located on an isthmus, is surrounded by lakes. We have Lakes Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, and Kegonsa, all connected by the Yahara River. This provides for gorgeous scenery, but also for water activities! While you’re in town, try renting  a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard from Rutabaga Rentals.

If you’re looking to get around town and don’t want to use private or public transportation, or are just looking for a greener option, check out a B-Cycle. It’s inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and a unique way to take in Madison. For only $3 dollars per half hour, B-cycle is an affordable way to get from point A to B. Also, if that trip is less than 30 minutes, it’s free!

Madison may be the capitol of Wisconsin, but it still maintains a small-town feel. When your job requires you to be in front of a screen, it’s important to get out and take in nature. While you’re in town for a Madison+ conference, take the opportunity to visit one of our great parks. Grab some lunch and enjoy the lakefront view at James Madison Park, just blocks away from our venue.

After the conference, check out the nightlife that Madison has to offer. There are no shortages of great clubs, bars, and breweries here. Wisconsin is third in the nation for number of bars and bars per capita, but we certainly do not sacrifice quality for quantity. Check out one of Madison’s best breweries while you are here, a highlight to our local beer lovers, Ale Asylum. If you love great craft beer, then you’ve found your second home.

Madison is also a prime city for taking in live music. Each Friday during the summer, Madison hosts a free live music show aptly named “Live on King Street,” literally in the middle of King Street, right off of the capitol square. The music of nationally-performing artists echoes down the urban King Street and funnels into the capitol square. The combination of live music, a cold beverage, and a warm summer night is a perfect way to kick off your weekend.

We hope this gives you some ideas on how to spend your time while visiting Madison. When attending a Madison+ conference, we want you to have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and insight, but we also want you to experience the city that we love.
